when undead personal trainers and brain hungry ss captains are running around in the streets youre gonna be bummed you didnt get a few hours in at the range. i cant believe it took until 2010 for zombie targets to exist, its one of those things thats just so obvious and so awesome you want to punch yourself in the face because you didnt come up with it.

after watching real time with bill maher the other night i was reminded of this speech by jimmy carter in 1979. its hard to imagine a president in 2010 basically saying "hey america youre materialistic and fucked up" im sure it was hard for a president to say it back then and im sure it was a main factor in carter not being elected to a second term. its pretty shocking to listen to this speech and realize how everything hes saying still applies today and even more shocking when you think about how much stronger these forces have become over the last 30 years. who we elect for president is the embodiment of the temperment of the country, the election of reagan in '80 was this country rejecting this speech and embracing consumption and self indulgence on a grand scale. it put this country on the path we find ourselves on today. depressing shit.

footage from last nights society nurse record release show, sorry for the blown out audio, ill get around to buying a mic sooner or later. highlights include smashing cinder blocks mid set, blood on the floor and a general disregard for personal well being. seriously awesome show. pick up their new 7" from iron lung records here.

normally i try to keep myself in a ad free bubble, i mute commercials and try to not look at billboards, yeah maybe thats weird, whatever. its pretty hard for me to type this but this new pemco ad campaign is fucking awesome. theyve got these northwest stereotypes so spot on its amazing. spend a day in seattle and youll see each and every one of these, check them all out here .

im no fan of the honolulu police department, most of my run ins with them have been unpleasant and more like being bullied than being "protected" but i must admit im really into this program they have going, every weds starting at 10 am they post mug shots of that weeks drunk drivers. hillarious. generally people in hawaii have a VERY lax attitude towards driving drunk, its pretty sickening actually. anything that puts these amazing assholes on blast is 100% a-ok with me. check it out next weds, here.

as much as id like to carry around a full size dslr all day everyday its just not reasonable. i picked up the compact and highly capable canon s90 the other day, good times so far. oh and by the way best buy is on the ropes so dont be afraid to haggle.

i just finished reading a pretty interesting interview with wolves in the throne room, you can find it here. the first half is pretty standard, it really picks up towards the end when they start discussing the underlying philosophy of the band. definitely worth your time.

if vancouver b.c. was a part of the usa i would without a doubt live there. things being as they are i just visit when a band i want to see is playing or the urge to eat at my favorite vancouver restaurant (guu) reaches unbearable levels. the purpose of yesterdays trip was to see the endless blockade, a band ive been waiting years to catch live. i managed to get some semi decent footage considering that it was in a unbelieveably small basement packed way too tight. as youre about to see, they did not dissapoint.

im not sure if you guys really understood what i was talking about with my new years eve in hawaii post last week. words can only do so much. here are some videos i found on youtube to help.

that rustling sound you hear isnt the wind, its about a billion little red firecrackers going off at the same time.

it gets even more nuts when you think about how all this stuff is completely illegal in hawaii and really shouldnt even be on the island. somehow every year TONS of this stuff slips through and finds its way to your neighbors, your grandmas, your cousins, everyones house. and it aint cheap either, i was quoted $50 for 5 roman candles that would cost at most $2.50 each here at the indian reservation. its a steep price to pay for one of our most cherished local traditions and im glad there are so many willing to pay it.

im not sure but these urchins seem to be doing their part as well, i cant tell if they set up shop in these holes or made them. any marine biologists out there want to school us?

the view from about a mile into the lanipo trail on the top of maunalani heights. not enough daylight to make it the whole 3.7 miles in, hopefully next time. i wont get into it here but if youre from oahu you know the economic contrasts between the valley on the left and the valley on the right.
